Azam Khan and Anwar Ali the stars as Sindh book semi-final spot

Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 68-ball 99 goes in vain as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa go down by three runs to Central Punjab

Azam Khan top-scored for Sindh•PCB

Sindh beat Northern by 25 runs</b
Azam Khan’s career-best 88 off 43 balls, with eight sixes and five fours in it, headlined Sindh’s dominant show against Northern, which ended with a 25-run loss for the National T20 Cup table-toppers. Northern had already qualified for the semi-finals, and the win helped Sindh join them in the final four, where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also cemented their place. After Northern opted to bowl, Mohammad Amir sent back Khurram Manzoor quickly, but they were then punished, especially by Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sharjeel Khan (21 in 20) and Saud Shakeel (25 in 18) helped Sindh reach 51 for 1 in the powerplay, and though Northern pulled back with the wickets of both the set batsmen soon after that, some brutal hitting from Azam and Ahmed changed the flow of the game.Ahmed was as effective as his younger colleague. If Azam scored at a strike rate of 204.65, Ahmed hit an unbeaten 52 in 28 balls, scoring at 185.71. The two added 130 runs in 91.2 overs before Amir sent Azam back, ending with 2 for 42. Ahmed, though, continued and helped Sindh put up a formidable 221 for 4.Northern launched a powerful response as openers Umar Amin (52 in 42) and Zeeshan Malik (61 in 35) put on a 116-run stand. The tide turned when Anwar Ali, returning for his final over, dismissed both the batsmen off successive balls. Asif Ali, batting at No. 4, denied Anwar his hat-trick, but ran himself out off the next ball for Sindh to get their three-in-three. From 116 for no loss, Northern were 117 for 3.Shadab Khan (26 in 16) and Haider Ali (27 in 13) tried their best, but the asking rate was too high for them to catch up.Central Punjab beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 3 runs
An unbeaten 99, off just 68 balls, by Mohammad Rizwan nearly took Khyber Pakhtunkhwa past Central Punjab, till they fell short by three runs in the late match on the day.Needing 21 in the final over, bowled by Ehsan Adil, Rizwan single-handedly took it to the last ball with four, four and six leading up to the final delivery, but managed only two off it. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who had already qualified for the final four, stayed on ten points from nine games, but Central Punjab, with the win, got to eight points from their ten games to give themselves a chance of making the semi-finals. Their progress, or not, depends on Balochistan’s performance in their last two games. After opting to bowl, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Imran Khan removed Kamran Akmal for a duck, but Babar Azam (39 in 33) and Abdullah Shafique (63 in 48) led the recovery with an 80-run partnership, though it wasn’t too frenetic. Babar fell first, in the 12th over, and both Shafique and Faheem Ashraf fell in the 18th over, but Muhammad Akhlaq, playing only his second game, smacked three sixes and four fours in a brisk 50* off 29 balls to take his team to a combative 174 for 4.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa got off to a shaky start in response, losing three wickets within five overs with 27 on the board. More wickets fell after that, leaving Rizwan to fight a lone battle. He first anchored a 40-run stand with Iftikhar Ahmed (21 in 13) and then had another partnership of 57 runs with No. 7 Musadiq Ahmed (17 in 13) to take the game deep. But, despite his best efforts, his team fell agonisingly short in the end.

Everton hit gold selling PL icon who’d be worth more than Lukaku in 2024

da bet sport: Everton's dealings in the market have left much to be desired in recent years, with the club's erratic dealings in the window undoubtedly a contributing factor to the recent PSR breaches.

da bet7: The Toffees' financial situation has been well documented, with the club restricted as to what they can spend on transfers to avoid any further breaches in the years ahead.

However, once upon a time, the hierarchy were capable of conducting excellent business, which included buying players on the cheap and selling them for a huge profit – subsequently making the club more sustainable.

Ex-Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku is the main example, with the club buying him for £28m before selling him to Manchester United for a whopping £75m just three years after his arrival on Merseyside.

Despite the brilliant deal for the Belgian – and then-boss Ronaldo Koeman – Everton also managed to receive an excellent deal for one player, with his deal eclipsing that of Lukaku in 2024.

Wayne Rooney's career at Everton

After arriving at the club's academy at the age of nine, striker Wayne Rooney rapidly progressed through the youth levels at Goodison Park, featuring for the U19 side at just 15 years of age.

He went on to make his first-team debut just a year later, featuring on the opening day of the 2002/03 season against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.

No one could've anticipated the impact Rooney would've had on Merseyside, especially considering the youthful age at which he broke into the club's first team.

He would fire home his first Toffees goal during the 2-1 win over Arsenal at Goodison – a goal that would go down in Everton's history, with Rooney becoming the club's second-youngest-ever goalscorer behind James Vaughan.

The emerging superstar would go on to register six Premier League goals during his debut season, a remarkable feat for a player of Rooney's age, finishing as the club's third top scorer, behind Tomasz Radzinski and Kevin Campbell.

Rooney would improve his goalscoring record the following campaign, scoring nine times – a tally that would catch the attention of one of England's biggest clubs during the summer of 2004.

Manchester United would come calling for Rooney, with the club and the player unable to turn down the £30m deal that would see the forward move to Old Trafford – a deal that would cement him in Premier League history.

His time in Manchester would see him become the league's third-top scorer of all-time, whilst making himself United's leading scorer, overtaking the record set by the legendary Sir Bobby Charlton.

The deal for Rooney was a huge one for such a young player, with the Red Devils taking a huge gamble splashing that amount of money on a teenager, but, how much would he be worth in a modern transfer market? We have the answer.

How much Wayne Rooney would be worth in 2024

It's coming up to 20 years since Sir Alex Ferguson splashed the cash on Rooney, with the deal proving to be a successful investment with his goals leading the club to 14 trophies during his time at Old Trafford.

Whilst it was a huge deal at the time, if Rooney had left Everton in 2024, that transfer would have been roughly worth an extraordinary £119m, according to a conversion tool from The Totally Money Transfer Index.

wayne-rooney-tottenham-hotspur-manchester-united-tyrese-hall-academy-postecoglou

Whilst Lukaku still holds the club's record for the most expensive departure following his own move to Manchester, had Rooney made the switch in 2024, it would've blown the £75m deal for the Belgian out of the water, surpassing it by £44m.

He was a huge hit during his short career at Goodison and whilst they made the right call to offload him given the huge fee, the Toffees must wish they had kept hold of Rooney, with his goalscoring exploits potentially allowing the Blues to reach the next level and return to their glory days of the past.

The same might well be true of Lukaku, with Dyche and co crying out for a prolific number nine, having scored just 39 goals this season in the league…

Everton have been rinsed by Moshiri signing whose value has dropped £21m

This Toffee has failed to live up to the one-time hype.

John Reid, New Zealand's captain in their first Test win, dies at 92

Former ICC Match Referee was also oldest living Test cricketer from New Zealand before his passing

John Reid, the former New Zealand captain, selector of the national team, ICC match referee and the 1959 Cricketer of the Year, has died in Auckland at the age of 92 years and 133 days. Before his passing, he was the fifth oldest living Test cricketer, and the oldest from New Zealand.Reid made his debut for New Zealand against England in Manchester in 1949. He played 58 Test matches and scored 3,428 runs before retiring in 1965. One of his six hundreds came in the second innings of the Christchurch Test against England in 1963, where he scored 100 out of New Zealand’s innings total of 159. That total still stands as a record for the lowest innings score to feature a hundred. An allrounder who bowled fast-medium, Reid took 85 Test wickets and also was a handy wicketkeeper, standing behind the stumps in the final Test of his debut 1949 series against England.Reid, who gave up on dreams of being a rugby player due to a heart condition, was New Zealand’s captain in their first-ever Test win, against West Indies in 1956, which came in the country’s 45th game, 26 years after their first. Three years later, he touched glory on tour in South Africa in the 1961-62 season, scoring 1915 runs with seven centuries, which also included New Zealand’s first away Test win, coming under his captaincy. He was also involved in the lowest innings total in Tests, when New Zealand were dispatched for 26 by England at Eden Park in 1955. “You can’t really explain it,” he told ESPNcricinfo in 2009. “In the first innings I got 73, and we got them out for 246. And then we score 26.”His success as New Zealand captain – who he led 34 times – eventually saw him captain the Rest of the World XI that toured England in 1965 with Sir Garfield Sobers as vice-captain and Charlie Griffith, Wes Hall, Hanif Mohammad and Rohan Kanhai playing under him. Overall, he scored 16,128 first-class runs at an average of 41.35 and 39 hundreds with the bat, and with the ball took 466 first-class wickets at an average of 22.20. He also had seven stumpings. His career-best 296 – with 35 fours and 15 sixes – for Northern Districts held the record for most sixes in a first-class innings for more than three decades until Andrew Symonds broke it with his 16 sixes for Gloucestershire. While Reid was Test captain, he was also New Zealand’s selector. After his retirement, he briefly coached in South Africa but returned to New Zealand and became an ICC match referee between 1993 and 2002, officiating in 50 Tests and 98 ODIs. After that he was appointed president of New Zealand Cricket in 2003.For his contributions to the sport in New Zealand, a gate at the Basin Reserve cricket ground in Wellington bears his name. Reid’s son Richard played nine ODIs between 1988 and 1991. Reid’s health was in decline after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013. After Reid’s death, the oldest living Test cricketer from New Zealand is Trevor McMahon (aged 90 and 341 days). McMahon played five Tests in 1955-56, and Reid, too, featured in all those games.

Newcastle plotting another Howe reunion with star he signed for just £800k

da realbet: Newcastle United could grant Eddie Howe a reunion with another one of his former players with a move that could suit all parties this summer, it has emerged.

Magpies hunting gold on a budget

da bwin: Money is tight on Tyneside this summer, with failure to qualify for the Champions League once more likely to have a knock-on effect on the ability to spend amid concerns over financial fair play compliance having seen some of their Premier League rivals face points deductions this term.

As a result, Newcastle are hunting bargain buys, and are already thought to be closing in on two in the form of free agent pair Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly, whose deals at Fulham and Bournemouth respectively expire this summer.

While money will certainly be spent, it will need to be spent wisely and conform to Newcastle's policy of targeting young talent with their best years still in front of them. And Howe may be a crucial part of getting another deal over the line that ticks all of those boxes.

Howe pushing for another former player

Now, news has emerged that Howe is targeting another of his former players after the move for Kelly, in the shape of Arsenal no.2 Aaron Ramsdale. A regular presence for the Gunners last season, Ramsdale has seen his spot in the side taken by David Raya this season, and should a loan move for the Brentford goalkeeper be made permanent as seems likely, it is almost certain the England international will seek pastures new in a bid for regular first team football.

Now, Graeme Bailey claims that Howe is pushing Newcastle to accelerate a move for Ramsdale amid question marks over the no.1 position at St James' Park. Nick Pope has missed much of the season through injury, while Loris Karius is leaving and Martin Dubravka may well follow him out of the exit door.

It is added that Mikel Arteta "will not stop" Ramsdale from leaving this summer, though he will likely cost similar to the £30m Arsenal signed him for back in 2022.

Still just 25-years-old, Ramsdale has the best years of his career ahead of him, and a familiar face in the shape of Howe could be just what is needed to kickstart his career once more.

PIF enquire over dream Isak successor who's scored 3 vs Newcastle in 23/24

The club are exploring potential replacements for the Swedish international.

ByEthan Lamb May 10, 2024

The pair worked together previously at Bournemouth, where Howe signed the youngster for £800,000 back in 2017. Ramsdale appeared 37 times for Howe, keeping five clean sheets in the process. He could not prevent them from being relegated though, which culminated in Howe getting the sack and the goalkeeper moving to Sheffield United.

Newcastle may face competition for the goalkeeper, with Chelsea also thought to be tracking him, while any deal could well be delayed by Ramsdale's predicted involvement in the upcoming European Championships with England, which ends in mid-July.

However, with Howe hunting for reinforcements, he could be a perfect fit.

Jharkhand Premier League set to start on September 15

There has been no sanctioned cricket in India since March, and it remains unclear if the BCCI has given its go-ahead to the latest T20 tournament

All the matches are expected to be held at Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium•Getty Images

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) is set to launch its own T20 league – the Jharkhand Premier League – on September 15 this year. In an email accessed by ESPNcricinfo, several cricketers who are affiliated with the association were informed of their selection for the league and sent accompanying forms to register themselves for it. They have been asked to report to the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi – with instructions around Covid-19 testing – which is understood to be the host venue for the entire tournament. The tournament’s proposed format of hosting all matches in one venue is not completely in line with BCCI’s tentative plans for the domestic season, which involves creating groups that would exclusively play on four grounds in two cities. But it could well prove to be an unofficial dry run for the BCCI, in terms of handling a safety bubble with multiple teams. At the same time, it is unclear if the tournament has been approved by the BCCI yet, and ESPNcricinfo’s attempts to reach the association were unsuccessful. That said, it is unusual for such a tournament to take place without official sanction, and the letter sent to the players was on official JSCA stationery, which clearly spells out that it is affiliated with the BCCI.The BCCI is currently dealing with the prospect of a severely truncated domestic season, if one happens at all, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. There has been no sanctioned cricket in India since March, and no clear path laid out for resumption apart from a preliminary fixtures proposal that has not yet been ratified by senior management. The radar is trained firmly on the IPL at the moment, which has run into several challenges of its own, including at least a 20-30% drop in revenue for all its franchises, apart from a 50% drop in title sponsorship. In this climate, the JSCA has reportedly signed on two major sponsors as well as a live-streaming partner. The tournament will, however, be without prominent Jharkhand players like MS Dhoni, Ishan Kishan, Shahbaz Nadeem and Varun Aaron, who are in the UAE to take part in the IPL for their respective teams. But the board sees it as an opportunity to provide a platform for upcoming players and keep a strong pool of players ready should there be a domestic season in the works by the end of the year.MS Dhoni and other prominent Jharkhand cricketers are away in the UAE for the IPL•PTI

“The Association is humbled and offers its deepest gratitude to the state government for its proactive support in these despairing times, to kick-start sporting activities in Jharkhand,” JSCA president Nafees Akhtar Khan was quoted as saying in the .The league will reportedly have six teams representing Jharkhand’s six zones and run for 33 days. The teams will not be franchise-based. “The six teams representing six zones include Ranchi Raiders, Dumka Daredevils, Dhanbad Dynamos, Singhbhum Strikers, Jamshedpur Jugglers and Bokaro Blasters,” JSCA secretary Sanjay Sahay was quoted as saying in the . “The teams shall comprise only of players who are registered with the JSCA from the state of Jharkhand. Nearly 100 players will be part of the tournament. There will be no franchises or team owners.”The email Sahay sent out to the players included a document on Covid-19 protocols, which lays out the ways in which a bio-secure bubble will be created at the stadium. The letter of selection stated that players would only be allowed into the bubble after submitting negative reports for Covid-19 before leaving from their homes. Upon reaching the venue, the guidelines are along expected lines – physical distancing, no saliva on the ball, no sharing of equipment, no exits from the bubble, and so on. The players are going to be provided three sets of “accommodation kits” for the duration of their stay, one set of “dressing room kits” for each match, and two sets of “sports attire”. Players have been told to use personal vehicles or unshared taxis to reach the venue. There is also a provision for those with symptoms: “Any player/support staff suspected of having Covid-19 like symptoms during their stay shall undergo RT-PCR tests for Covid-19. Two tests one day apart (Day 1 & Day 3) shall be done to account for false negatives. If both the test results are negative, only then they shall be allowed to take further part in the league.”
